ACORN GLASSWORKS STUDIO AND GALLERY

For those drawn to the beauty of glass art, Acorn Glassworks offers immersive classes where participants can create stunning glass pieces. Classes are limited to six students each, with three-hour weekly sessions for eight weeks. As it is more of a commitment, students learn the foundational skills of working with molten glass through watching demonstrations along with hands-on projects led by experts. Whether you’re a first-time artist or a seasoned crafter (Intermediate Glass-Blowing classes are also available), Acorn Glassworks ensures a welcoming and educational environment that lets your imagination shine.

If you’re interested in the rich history and artistry of ceramics, Pewabic is the perfect place to be. Known for its 120+ years of handcrafting ceramics, Pewabic offers a range of hands-on workshops, including the popular Tile Glazing Workshops. Marketing Director Amanda Rogers shares, “In this 1-hour workshop, participants will choose one of our 3 designs and learn how to bulb glaze in the same way as our Pewabic fabrication team. Once fired, tiles will be ready for pick up at a later date.” Other workshops include seasonal designs or kid-friendly sessions, perfect for the little artist in your life. While you’re there, check out the free second-floor museum for an impressive display of historic pottery and tile art.

ZINGERMAN’S BAKEHOUSE

3723 Plaza Drive, Ann Arbor

At Zingerman’s Bakehouse, the BAKE! classes offer a hands-on opportunity to recreate beloved recipes under the guidance of expert instructors. From fresh pastries and delightful bread to holiday meals and savory dishes, there’s a baking or cooking class for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned baker or a curious beginner. Principal BAKE! Instructor Susan Chagas shares, “You can expect small class sizes and lots of individual attention.” Many classes are held in person, but a variety are virtual if you’d prefer to learn in your own kitchen, though you’ll have to also be on clean-up duty if you’re at home!
